Marcia Hines returns as Australian Idol fans cry foul over upset win

The Australian Idol 2024 grand finale left viewers stunned and divided as Dylan Wright emerged victorious, leaving many fans feeling that Amy Reeves had been unjustly denied the crown.

The electrifying finale aired on Monday evening, showcasing the talents of Denvah Baker-Moller, Dylan Wright and Amy Reeves as they vied for the coveted title. However, it was Wright who clinched the top spot, much to the disappointment of numerous fans who had rallied behind Reeves.

Throughout the season, Wright had consistently impressed both judges and audiences alike with his remarkable performances. His emotional reaction upon winning the recording contract with Sony Music Entertainment Australia and a $100,000 cash prize was palpable: “I’m about to cry!" he told the cheering crowd. "So, thanks!”

The finale kicked off with hosts Ricki Lee and Scott Tweedie addressing the absence of judge Marcia Hines, who had been hospitalised due to health issues potentially related to her Type 1 diabetes. The void left by Hines was temporarily filled by guest judge Guy Sebastian, who stepped in to ensure the show's continuity.

Despite her absence, Hines' spirit remained present as she conveyed her apologies via Instagram, assuring fans of her eagerness to return. “I feel fine,” she said on Monday night's show in response to Ricki Lee and Scott Tweedie. “I want to thank everybody who reached out towards me, you know. I do appreciate it. And you guys need to know – I couldn’t have missed this for the world. I couldn’t have.”

Hines admitted to having had stitches after collapsing backstage, and briefly lifted her hair to show the stitches on her forehead. “It is all good," she explained. "I’m good. I go back to the hospital tonight,” she added jokingly.

As the finalists delivered their last performances, Reeves' rendition of Jessie J's "Bang Bang" stood out, earning praise from judge Kyle Sandilands and igniting a wave of support from viewers. However, despite her standout performance, it was Wright who ultimately clinched the title after a tense battle with Reeves.

The decision sparked a flurry of reactions on social media, with many expressing disbelief and frustration over Reeves' loss. Some fans proclaimed Reeves as the most deserving contestant in Idol history. “Call the police!" they wrote. "A robbery has taken place on #AustralianIdol. Amy has been absolutely shafted. Easily the best performer in idol history.”

Amidst the chorus of disappointment, there were voices of congratulations for Wright, acknowledging his talent and triumph in the competition. Despite the divided opinions, one thing remained certain – the passion and fervour of Australian Idol fans, who eagerly await the next chapter in the musical journeys of all the finalists.

Images: Channel Seven

"So eloquent": High-schooler's take on The Voice resurfaces

A compelling Q+A video clip originally showcasing a 15-year-old high schooler's insights on "The Voice to Parliament" proposal in 2018 has re-emerged online and gained viral prominence, days before the nation votes on the Voice to Parliament referendum.

Recent polling indicates that support for The Voice is waning, and it appears to be heading toward a defeat, with all but two states leaning toward a No vote. This shift in public opinion comes at a critical juncture in the debate surrounding this historical initiative.

Dylan Storer, a journalist from Western Australia, took to X (Twitter) to express his support for The Voice. He shared a video clip of his appearance on the ABC's Q+A from five years ago. At the time, he was only 15 years old and was part of a special panel consisting of high school students from across the nation who discussed the pressing issues confronting their communities.

In the video, Storer explained, "I come from a predominantly Indigenous school," emphasising the importance of educating young Australians about the American civil rights movement and Australian Aboriginal history. He believed that Australia had a unique opportunity to embrace and acknowledge the cultures that have existed on its land for an astounding 65,000 years, and that this cultural recognition could significantly shape the nation's identity.

The episode in which Storer appeared on Q+A took place shortly after former Prime Minister Scott Morrison appointed Tony Abbott as a special envoy for Indigenous affairs in the government. Storer expressed his reservations about this top-down approach, asserting that it was counterintuitive to have Tony Abbott in that role, given the circumstances.

In Storer's view, the root causes of racism and misunderstandings about First Nations people in Australia stem from inadequate education about the country's history. He argued that teaching Australians about Indigenous people from a young age could only strengthen the nation.

The video clip resurfaced at a time when the Uluru Statement from the Heart, a significant document drafted after extensive consultations with 250 Indigenous representatives from across the country, was still fresh in people's minds. This statement emphasised Indigenous voices being at the forefront of determining their own destiny. According to Storer, this made the government's choice of appointing Abbott seem counterintuitive and at odds with these aspirations.

Dylan Storer impressed the nation with his appearance on the Q&A High School Panel in September, 2018. #QandA pic.twitter.com/JAZ8Xk75UB

— QandA (@QandA) November 13, 2019

Storer's words in the video have now been viewed over 230,000 times and have ignited a lively discussion online. Praise for his eloquent and insightful statements has poured in, including commendation from former federal MP Tony Windsor, who wished him well and acknowledged his contribution to the national dialogue.

Storer's youthful perspective from 2018 continues to resonate and engage audiences, reaffirming the importance of conversations about Indigenous rights and cultural recognition in Australia.

Images: X (Twitter)

Matt Wright accuses police of overlooking evidence in helicopter crash investigation

Outback Wrangler star Matt Wright has revealed what he believes caused the helicopter crash that killed his friend and co-star Chris Wilson in 2022, accusing police of ignoring crucial evidence.

Wright is facing seven charges regarding his conduct after the fatal crash, including attempting to pervert the course of justice, fabrication of evidence and destruction of evidence.

Chris “Willow” Wilson was killed on February 28, 2022, while collecting crocodile eggs in a remote area of West Arnhem Land in the Northern Territory.

The 34-year-old had been suspended in a sling from a helicopter when the aircraft crashed, resulting in his death.

Sebastian Robinson, the pilot of the Robinson R44 helicopter suffered severe spinal injuries from the crash.

In an exclusive interview with The Sunday Telegraph, Wright revealed the ongoing police investigation is “focusing on picking apart my life and business” rather than the events leading to the fatal crash.

“I do seriously wonder why the NT Police are not focusing on whether the helicopter was refuelled and the fact the toxicology report reveals the detection of cocaine derivatives in the pilot’s blood sample,” he said.

No one has been charged for Wilson’s death, and Wright has “strenuously” denied any wrongdoing.

Wright previously claimed that Mr Robinson’s blood sample tested positive for cocaine and that has been supported by a letter sent by his lawyer David Newey to Senior Crown prosecutor Steven Ledek.

The letter was used as evidence during a court hearing in relation to Wright’s charges in Darwin in April 2023, highlighting information contained in the prosecution’s brief of evidence.

Wright told the publication he recently learned Mr Robsinson, the pilot who was externally contracted for the flight, “was at a party into the early hours of the day before the crash, where people were using cocaine”.

A man who wished to remain anonymous told The Sunday Telegraph that he was introduced to Mr Robinson at a party in Virginia, 30km southeast of Darwin, two nights before the crash.

The outlet reported he came forward after hearing about the toxicology report being referred to in the court case.

Wright described the new revelations as “extremely concerning”, especially given the references to the toxicology report in court, and said if he were aware of what it suggests occurred before the flight “it never would have taken off”.

He also said the preliminary Australian Transport Safety Bureau report suggested the helicopter was not refuelled en route to the egg collection. He believes that is likely what caused the crash.

The helicopter was expected to leave Darwin and refuel at Mr Borradaile on the way to a preparation area near King River in Arnhem Land, where it would land, attach the sling and connect a person before beginning the egg collection.

Wright told The Sunday Telegraph his Darwin fuel stations use “blue fuel” but the station at Mt Borradaile near the crash site used “green”. The colour indicates lead levels. It was reported that the fuel at Mt Borradaile was provided by a third party company involved in egg collections.

The ATSB report said investigators drained “about 250ml of blue fuel from the main tank’s bladder” following the crash.

“This makes me question whether the helicopter was refuelled at Mount Borradaile and whether it was fuel exhaustion that caused the crash,” Wright told the outlet.

A pilot flying another helicopter joining the fatal mission told the Australian there was “no possible way” fuel exhaustion caused the crash because he filled the crashed R44’s tank himself at a fuel-drum site near Mt Borradaile shortly before the crash.

Tim Luck said he flew from Noonamah to the drum site with another pilot and saw Mr Wilson filling up the tank. He also noted he jumped out and took over pumping.

“I’m 100 per cent sure that machine was filled to the top,” he said.

However, Mr Wright said Mr Luck was not “authorised or trained in refuelling helicopters” as that responsibility, he said, was up to the pilot in command.

The Sunday Telegraph obtained a photo which appears to show Wilson sitting in the right-side pilot’s seat with the helicopter’s controls in his hands. Wright said the picture shows Wilson flying the aircraft in the pilot’s seat and Robinson sitting on the left, with both of his feet off the pedals.

“This was a commercial flight, the pilot was not an instructor and Chris Wilson did not have a commercial helicopter licence,” he said.

According to The Sunday Telegraph, the image is time stamped at 7:43am, 40 minutes after the aircraft left Darwin, and appears to show the fuel gauge indicating the tank was about three quarters full. It was an estimated 90 minute flight from Darwin to fuel the drums.

He was not blaming Wilson, describing him as a “true legend” in tributes on social media, for being behind the controls, but could not understand why the “pilot went against protocol”.

NT Police said in a statement they were “continuing to investigate all matters relating to this incident”.

The ATSB’s final report into the cause of the crash is set for release by September 2023.

"That was flawless": Sunrise host falls for hilarious April Fools prank

Sunrise host Monique Wright got tricked by co-host Matt Doran’s elaborate April Fools’ Day prank on Saturday.

Wright was convinced that she had scored an exclusive interview with US President Barack Obama, when in fact she was interviewing an impersonator called Reggie.

“Mr Obama, what an absolute thrill to have you in the country,” she gushed “Gosh we love you here, and it was fantastic to have you on our programme.

“Thank you so much, safe travels home,” she added.

To make the prank believable, the Sunrise team had intentionally distorted Wright’s screen so that she couldn’t recognise who she was speaking with over Zoom.

Doran waited until after the interview to reveal the truth.

“Just before we let you go, perhaps it might be an opportune time just to let Mon know that we’re actually speaking to Reggie from LA who is the top Obama impersonator in the world,” he said.

“G’day Reggie! That was flawless.”

Wright was left fuming and blamed her gullibility on bad technology.

“Reggie, they’ve actually used a monitor which looks very strange, I can’t see you properly,” she said, to which Doran joked that it wasn’t a valid excuse.

She then acknowledged the “extraordinary” acting abilities of the Sunrise team and exclaimed: “I hate you, I was so excited!”

“I ran down to get changed with two minutes' notice, so I would like to apologise to Chrissy the producer who saw me in my underwear,” she said, revealing how excited she was for the interview.

“I hate all of you but I mostly hate you!” she jokingly said to Doran.

Doran then tried to make her feel better by saying that anyone would’ve fallen for the same prank.

“You were given no notice, Reggie was so convincing,” he said, adding that he was terrified of what Wright might do to get him back.

Wright then joked that he should be terrified after throwing everyone into a frenzy and getting the “whole building” involved in his elaborate prank.

“Watch this space, stay comfortable Matt,” she said.

Images: Channel Seven

We've been desperate,” Wright added to which Barr agreed that the rental crisis is affecting everyone “at every price point”.

Kochie sat in visible shock throughout the whole conversation, and was only able to respond with “amazing”.

According to Domain, Australia’s national vacancy rate remained 0.8 per cent in February, but the vacancy rates across the combined capital has declined to 0.7 per cent.

In Sydney and Melbourne, vacancies have declined below 1 per cent to 0.9 per cent and 0.8 per cent, respectively.

Perth and Adelaide have the tightest rental market at just 0.3 per cent.

This comes after many families are struggling to find a home and are forced to sleep in tents.

Shocking images of landlords attempting to benefit off this crisis have also gone viral, whether it’s advertising a shed as a three bedroom rental, or renting out balconies for $300 a week.

Chief executive officer of the Tenants' Union of New South Wales, Leo Patterson Ross told the Daily Mail that although the economic circumstances were vastly different 90 years ago, rental conditions are now worse than the Great Depression in the 1930s.

“We have to go back that far because we haven't seen this kind of widespread general experience of the system going wrong,” he said.

Image: Sunrise

Socceroos hero's tragic news moments after full time

Bailey Wright could hardly speak after the Socceroos' incredible win over Denmark.

He paid an emotional tribute to huge sacrifices made by his family, after receiving the news that his mother in-law had passed away.

“I just want to dedicate this to my wife, and her mum - I'm going to be honest, I'm not sure if she's still with us. So this was for them," Wright said.

"They're having a really tough time back home, but ultimately, they've made this possible for me to be here and live one of my dreams.”

"I've just come in from a message from my wife ... it's sort of something I've kept to myself, we've all got a lot going on.”

Wright managed to put personal issues to the side, coming on with half an hour to go and helping see off Denmark, to secure Australia's spot in the last 16.

"(Coach Graham Arnold) asked me to warm up when it was 0-0, then we had a few shouts that Tunisia were winning 1-0 so I wasn't sure, maybe, if I'd get on or what would happen.

"Next minute, (Mat Leckie) worked his magic (to score) and I was already warmed up and ready to go.”
Whatever he kept to himself, even from other players, is now out in the open but there's no doubt the rest of the squad will be around to support him.

"When we set out on this journey four years ago and Arnie kind of said to us what he wanted this to be about; and that our mateship and togetherness is what's going to make us create history."

Image: Getty

Bob Dylan apologises over controversial detail in new book

Bob Dylan has issued an apology to fans who paid hundreds for his new book and discovered that they were signed using a machine, despite being advertised as “hand-signed”.

It emerged that the 900 copies of Philosophy of Modern Song, which set fans back $US 599 ($AU 895) per book, all included identical versions of the star’s singer after fans compared notes online.

Taking to social media, Dylan addressed the controversy and explained that he used an autopen - a device that allows signatures to be printed on demand - due to the COVID-19 pandemic and health issues that prevented him from signing them individually.

“I’ve hand-signed each and every art print over the years, and there’s never been a problem,” the 81-year-old wrote.

“However, in 2019 I had a bad case of vertigo and it continued into the pandemic years. It takes a crew of five working in close quarters with me to help enable these signing sessions and we could not find a safe and workable way to complete what I needed to while the virus was raging.

“So, during the pandemic, it was impossible to sign anything and the vertigo didn’t help.”
<blockquote class="instagram-media" style="background: #FFF; Australia's first celebrity TV doctor has passed away aged 95

Australia’s first celebrity TV doctor, Dr James Wright has sadly passed away.

It is believed that the healthcare professional and media personality died peacefully in his sleep. Dr Wright was affectionately dubbed “Merry Medic Dr James Wright” as he was admired by many Australians.

"Mum lived to 100, so I plan to live to 110," he said in a previous interview with 9News. "That's the plan. I might revise it later on."

Sadly, he didn't quite make it to 110, with the famed doctor dying two weeks shy of his 95th birthday.

Dr Weight is survived by his four children, nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren. His family are yet to release a statement, but tributes have started pouring in on social media.

Radio host Ben Fordham was among the first to pay tribute, followed by entertainment journalist Peter Ford, who expressed condolences via Twitter.

Vale John Wright https://t.co/K2C60LQurn via @

— Peter Ford (@mrpford) November 28, 2022

Dr Wright was loved by his viewers all throughout his journey. From his younger days in the Depression era, to his early years as a doctor. He embarked on quite the impressive media career despite claiming he "has the worst voice in the world".

In 1972, he appeared on Channel Nine's The Mike Walsh Show, then on Midday with Ray Martin and Midday with Kerri-Anne.

He then pivoted to radio where he made a name for himself on 2GB and the 2UE, presenting two-hour weekly programs.

"He cared about old people, he cared about people who were perhaps forgotten by other doctors or the rest of society. He put his money where his mouth was," Ray Martin told 9News.

On top of his TV cameos and radio hosting gigs, Wright also wrote countless columns. He contributed to a number of Australia publications including the likes of The Sunday Telegraph, The Australian Women's Weekly, Woman's Day and teen title Dolly and more, where he gave thoughtful and expert medical advice.

However, Dr Wright’s life wasn't without his own health battles having fought throat cancer back in 2012. He was lucky enough to experience remission but was left heart-broken when his wife Noreen died in her sleep that same night.

Ultimately, Dr Wright died from bowel cancer but remained positive and fought to the best of his abilities to the very end.

He will be sorely missed by the nation and his family alike.

Image: Twitter

How Bob Dylan used the ancient practice of ‘imitatio’ to craft some of the most original songs of his time

Over the course of six decades, Bob Dylan steadily brought together popular music and poetic excellence. Yet the guardians of literary culture have only rarely accepted Dylan’s legitimacy.

His 2016 Nobel Prize in Literature undermined his outsider status, challenging scholars, fans and critics to think of Dylan as an integral part of international literary heritage. My new book, “No One to Meet: Imitation and Originality in the Songs of Bob Dylan,” takes this challenge seriously and places Dylan within a literary tradition that extends all the way back to the ancients.

I am a professor of early modern literature, with a special interest in the Renaissance. But I am also a longtime Dylan enthusiast and the co-editor of the open-access Dylan Review, the only scholarly journal on Bob Dylan.

After teaching and writing about early modern poetry for 30 years, I couldn’t help but recognize a similarity between the way Dylan composes his songs and the ancient practice known as “imitatio.”

Poetic honey-making

Although the Latin word imitatio would translate to “imitation” in English, it doesn’t mean simply producing a mirror image of something. The term instead describes a practice or a methodology of composing poetry.

The classical author Seneca used bees as a metaphor for writing poetry using imitatio. Just as a bee samples and digests the nectar from a whole field of flowers to produce a new kind of honey – which is part flower and part bee – a poet produces a poem by sampling and digesting the best authors of the past.

Dylan’s imitations follow this pattern: His best work is always part flower, part Dylan.

Consider a song like “A Hard Rain’s A-Gonna Fall.” To write it, Dylan repurposed the familiar Old English ballad “Lord Randal,” retaining the call-and-response framework. In the original, a worried mother asks, “O where ha’ you been, Lord Randal, my son? / And where ha’ you been, my handsome young man?” and her son tells of being poisoned by his true love.

In Dylan’s version, the nominal son responds to the same questions with a brilliant mixture of public and private experiences, conjuring violent images such as a newborn baby surrounded by wolves, black branches dripping blood, the broken tongues of a thousand talkers and pellets poisoning the water. At the end, a young girl hands the speaker – a son in name only – a rainbow, and he promises to know his song well before he’ll stand on the mountain to sing it.

“A Hard Rain’s A-Gonna Fall” resounds with the original Old English ballad, which would have been very familiar to Dylan’s original audiences of Greenwich Village folk singers. He first sang the song in 1962 at the Gaslight Cafe on MacDougal Street, a hangout of folk revival stalwarts. To their ears, Dylan’s indictment of American culture – its racism, militarism and reckless destruction of the environment – would have echoed that poisoning in the earlier poem and added force to the repurposed lyrics.

Drawing from the source

Because Dylan “samples and digests” songs from the past, he has been accused of plagiarism.

This charge underestimates Dylan’s complex creative process, which closely resembles that of early modern poets who had a different concept of originality – a concept Dylan intuitively understands. For Renaissance authors, “originality” meant not creating something out of nothing, but going back to what had come before. They literally returned to the “origin.” Writers first searched outside themselves to find models to imitate, and then they transformed what they imitated – that is, what they found, sampled and digested – into something new. Achieving originality depended on the successful imitation and repurposing of an admired author from a much earlier era. They did not imitate each other, or contemporary authors from a different national tradition. Instead, they found their models among authors and works from earlier centuries.

In his book “The Light in Troy,” literary scholar Thomas Greene points to a 1513 letter written by poet Pietro Bembo to Giovanfrancesco Pico della Mirandola.

“Imitation,” Bembo writes, “since it is wholly concerned with a model, must be drawn from the model … the activity of imitating is nothing other than translating the likeness of some other’s style into one’s own writings.” The act of translation was largely stylistic and involved a transformation of the model.

Romantics devise a new definition of originality

However, the Romantics of the late 18th century wished to change, and supersede, that understanding of poetic originality. For them, and the writers who came after them, creative originality meant going inside oneself to find a connection to nature.

As scholar of Romantic literature M.H. Abrams explains in his renowned study “Natural Supernaturalism,” “the poet will proclaim how exquisitely an individual mind … is fitted to the external world, and the external world to the mind, and how the two in union are able to beget a new world.”

Instead of the world wrought by imitating the ancients, the new Romantic theories envisioned the union of nature and the mind as the ideal creative process. Abrams quotes the 18th-century German Romantic Novalis: “The higher philosophy is concerned with the marriage of Nature and Mind.”

The Romantics believed that through this connection of nature and mind, poets would discover something new and produce an original creation. To borrow from past “original” models, rather than producing a supposedly new work or “new world,” could seem like theft, despite the fact, obvious to anyone paging through an anthology, that poets have always responded to one another and to earlier works.

Unfortunately – as Dylan’s critics too often demonstrate – this bias favoring supposedly “natural” originality over imitation continues to color views of the creative process today.

For six decades now, Dylan has turned that Romantic idea of originality on its head. With his own idiosyncratic method of composing songs and his creative reinvention of the Renaissance practice of imitatio, he has written and performed – yes, imitation functions in performance too – over 600 songs, many of which are the most significant and most significantly original songs of his time.

To me, there is a firm historical and theoretical rationale for what these audiences have long known – and the Nobel Prize committee made official in 2016 – that Bob Dylan is both a modern voice entirely unique and, at the same time, the product of ancient, time-honoured ways of practicing and thinking about creativity.

This article originally appeared on The Conversation.

"The time for lip service is over": Dylan Alcott serves it up to Centrelink

During his appearance at the Jobs and Skills summit in Canberra, Aussie tennis legend Dylan Alcott delivered an impassioned speech on behalf of all people with disabilities, demanding they be allowed to work more hours without losing their Centrelink benefits.

His plea comes as the nation suffers through what's been widely characterised as an extreme labour shortage – with Alcott's rallying cry to change the current rules surrounding employment and the disability pension powerfully underlined by his parting shot that "the time for lip service is over".

"My whole life it hasn't changed": Australian of the Year Dylan Alcott has called for an increase in workplace participation for Australians living with a disability during the government's jobs and skills summit in Canberra.
Read more on the jobs summit: https://t.co/iyFrzKUT9l pic.twitter.com/MFdrsEoADy

— SBS News (@SBSNews) September 1, 2022

The Australian of the Year suggested that people with disabilities should have the advantage of picking up more work without losing Centrelink payments. Presenting the moving speech to 140 attendees, he spoke passionately about the current state of affairs for people with disabilities in the workforce.

“Nearly 4.5 million people in this country have some form of physical or non-physical disability, visible or invisible, and only 54% of them are enrolled in the workforce,” he said

“I'm 31 years old, that participation rate hasn't changed in 28 years. My whole life. It hasn't changed.

“And to be honest, that's not fair. That really isn't fair. Because people with a disability are ready to have the choice if they want to work, just like anybody else.”

“The time for lip service is over to be honest, because we've been getting that for a long time.”

Australia's unemployment rate currently sits at 3.4% – however, the unemployment rate of people with disabilities is almost triple that.

Alcott suggests the best solution to combat the problem is to allow those on disability support payments to work more hours without losing their benefits. Currently someone on that payment loses 50c in every dollar they earn over $190 a fortnight, putting them off working extra hours.

“There are so many opportunities to get out there and work at the moment, yet it's not really translating into people with disabilities getting that chance,” Alcott said.

“We need to have the opportunity to get out there and have a crack.”

Image: Getty

Bob Dylan to publish essay collection in celebration of songwriting

Bob Dylan is set to release a celebratory essay collection, dedicated to the art of songwriting by peers such as Nina Simone, Hank Williams and Elvis Costello.

The veteran artist began work on The Philosophy of Modern Song in 2010, which is set to contain over 60 essays in which the 80-year-old musician “analyses what he calls the trap of easy rhymes, breaks down how the addition of a single syllable can diminish a song, and even explains how bluegrass relates to heavy metal.”

According to publisher Simon & Schuster (S&S), the essays are described as “mysterious and mercurial, poignant and profound, and often laugh-out-loud funny. And while they are ostensibly about music, they are really meditations and reflections on the human condition.”

Combined with nearly 150 “carefully curated photos as well as a series of dreamlike riffs”, the collection “resembles an epic poem,” said S&S.

Jonathan Karp, president and chief executive of S&S, said in a statement, “The Philosophy of Modern Song could only have been written by Bob Dylan.”

“His voice is unique, and his work conveys his deep appreciation and understanding of songs, the people who bring those songs to life, and what songs mean to all of us.”

In 2016, Bob Dylan won the Nobel prize for literature, after his lyrics and previous published works have made a lasting impact on music fans and book lovers alike.

The Philosophy of Modern Song is set to be published on November 8th, with an audiobook partially narrated by Bob Dylan in the works as well.

Two hands!”

Banjo appears to lose interest in taking the snake back to the bushes, with Wright trying to encourage his son again.

“Quick, grab him, he’s going to bite Dad,” Wright jokes.

The video was praised by many, with a lot of commenters comparing Matt's relationship with Banjo to the late Steve Irwin's relationship with Bindi.

Despite the many positive comments, the wild clip wasn't received well by some.

“Normally I love your videos but I’m not a fan of this behaviour. No need to stress the animal just for an Instagram video,” one wrote.

“In America they would call child services lol,” another added.
